Bowl of Egg Roll

Share or Save for Later

This is a delightful, one pan twist to an asian favorite. You still have all the wonderful flavors combined together, just a much easier way of making the dish. This dish also fits for most diets that are trending now, Paleo, Keto, Low carb and Whole30. What more can you ask for when you want to lose some weight?

The bright spot is that you do not need to be on any diet to enjoy this dish. You may ask how this can be a regular meal, yet great for so many diets. It is very simple, you will use ground pork or turkey, cabbage, carrot and spices. There is nothing fattening in that mix.

This dish can be served with white rice, basmati rice, or brown rice. You can make it even lower in carbs by serving it with cauliflower rice. Although this dish does not need a side, it is phenomenal all by itself. The best way to reheat this dish is to put it in a skillet and cook it over low heat with a little added oil to prevent sticking or burning.

As for using soy sauce. I personally love traditional soy sauce, however, you can use low sodium, tamari sauce or liquid coconut aminos. The liquid coconut is free of soy and gluten. See, I told you that this dish fits any type of diet and yet is not a diet meal.

You could also use egg roll in a bowl as a side and serve it with sweet and sour chicken, General Tso’s Chicken, or any other asian dish you like.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Does an Egg Roll have eggs in it?

Typically it does not. The egg roll wrapper that is wrapped around all the scrumptious flavors has the egg.

What type of meat should I use?

For this recipe, it is recommended that you use pork or beef. However, you can use chicken, turkey or even fish and other seafood.

Can I store the leftovers?

When you put any leftovers in an airtight closed container, you can keep it in the refrigerator for 3 to 5 days. This meal is not recommended for freezing.

When it thaws, there is more moisture which will make the cabbage too soggy.

Is the carb count on the “bowl of egg roll” a typo or was something left out of the recipe? Where do all the carbs come from? This is not a Keto friendly recipe as it is printed.

Not Keto friendly with 260 grams of carbs and 40 grams of sugar. Doesn't sound like it's any diet friendly.
