Copycat KFC Fried Chicken

My first time making fried chicken and it was a success! My husband was obsessed.

Best one I’ve tried my kids prefer it to KFC

This is the best fried chicken I ever had and I’m 62 years old.

The skin is crispy and fries perfectly. The taste is substantial with a lot of flavor try this one and enjoy!

What do you need to make Copycat KFC Fried Chicken

1lb chicken breast, sliced into strips

2 egg

1 cup buttermilk

1 cup plain flour

1 cup panko breadcrumbs

1 tbsp vegetable oil

1 tbsp smoked paprika

1 tbsp garlic powder

1 tbsp mustard powder

1 tsp onion powder

1 tsp salt

½ tsp dried thyme

½ tsp dried oregano

How to make Copycat KFC Fried Chicken

FIRST STEP:

In a bowl combine the smoked paprika, garlic powder, mustard powder, onion powder, salt, thyme and oregano to form a spice mix.

In a container add one tablespoon of spice mix, the chicken strips and buttermilk, stir and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to marinade.

SECOND STEP:

Take three mixing bowls, into the first bowl add the flour and salt. Then into a second bowl crack two eggs and mix to break up.

Into the third bowl and the breadcrumbs and remaining spice mix seasoning. 

THIRD STEP:

To breadcrumb the chicken first place a strip of chicken into the flour until well covered, shake off excess.

Then dip the floured chicken into the bowl of egg and finally and finally into the spice mix seasoned breadcrumbs.

FOURTH STEP:

Place the breaded chicken onto a tray and repeat for the remaining chicken breasts then set aside.

Once the chicken is breaded, place a large frying pan onto a medium-high heat and add one tablespoon of vegetable oil.

FIFTH STEP:

When the oil is hot, add several breaded chicken strips and cook until golden brown, around 3 minutes.

Then flip the breaded chicken and cook on the other side for a further 3 minutes.

SIXTH STEP:

Remove the crispy chicken from the pan and set aside on a plate lined with kitchen paper.

Repeat the cooking process in batches until all the KFC copycat chicken is fried and crispy, serve hot.
