Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak
The best part of this homemade Salisbury steak is how easy it is to make since it’s a Crockpot Salisbury steak recipe!
Great for a weeknight dinner recipe when you have a full day and no time to cook dinner.
Simply prep these before you leave, turn on the heat, head out the door, and they’ll be done by the time you return! You can prep the patties the night before for an even easier recipe.
The slow-cooked process really absorbs the flavor too, so they come out perfectly! Everyone will be begging for you to cook this Salisbury steak again and again.
Can you cook hamburger meat in the crockpot?
While you can cook ordinary ground beef in the crockpot, I do not suggest doing so with these patties.
The searing process ensures they hold together and don’t fall apart in the slow cooker. If you aren’t concerned with them staying together and are okay with more of a gravy situation when they’re done you could just cook ground beef in the Crockpot!
Can I use ground turkey instead of ground beef?
Personally, I wouldn’t. The added fat in the ground beef assists in the overall flavor and consistency of the patties. Also, Salisbury steak is meant to be beef, it’s just a different flavor profile!
If you do switch out the meat just realize it might not be quite the same, that’s to be expected when subbing turkey for ground beef tho!
What goes good with Salisbury steak?
So many things! My personal favorite is with a bed of mashed potatoes. You can also serve it with things like roasted veggies, rice, salad, other styles of potatoes, and more.
If you want to serve it over noodles you can easily cook up some egg noodles to go with this Salisbury steak and then you have a full meal ready to go in no time!
Experiment with your favorites and see what you like best!
Can you freeze Salisbury steak?
Yes! If you’d like to make some ahead of time in bulk, you can freeze them before reheating. All you need to do is wait for them to cool and wrap them in foil before freezing.
When you’re ready, allow them to thaw overnight before reheating.
How long does Salisbury steak keep?
These patties will last 3-4 days in the fridge or 2-3 months in the freezer. It’s a great meal prep recipe…though we usually don’t have many leftovers from this one!

I use a liner whenever I’m making anything that might get stuck on. It makes cleanup a breeze and keeps everything easy to remove! You’ll need a good metal serving spoon to get this recipe served up pretty and easily.
When it comes to Crockpots I have MANY…it’s an obsession of mine, I’m not too proud to admit. I like to have options when it comes to sizes. A nice 6 quart is useful for all kinds of recipes. You can also use a 4 quart for many recipes and these Little Dipper crockpots are perfect for dessert, fondue, and more!
How to make this homemade steak in the Crockpot:
Line the bottom of your crockpot with the sliced mushrooms and onion.
In a large mixing bowl, mix together the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, and garlic powder. Form the mixture into small round flat patties.
Season the patties with steak seasoning or salt and pepper and then heat them on medium heat for 3 minutes on each side. This will give them a nice sear and help hold together as they cook in the crockpot.
Add the patties to the top of the mushroom and onions in the crockpot.
Sprinkle the brown gravy mix evenly on the top of the patties.
Pour the can of mushroom soup on top of the patties followed by the beef broth; cover crockpot.
Cook on high for 6 hours; stirring twice throughout the cooking time, if possible.
Serve over mashed potatoes and enjoy!
