There is one dish that I love to serve when I can’t fathom cooking another meal for the family. This meal is one that I know they love and it tastes fabulous!

It is not difficult to make and does not need a lot of time or ingredients.

Think of this recipe as sort of a twist on lasagna. The difference is it is made with Spaghetti and a homemade meat sauce that everyone loves.

The Million Dollar Spaghetti Casserole is one of those favorite budget friendly, tasty and well loved meals that you, too, will turn to time after time.

            Can I make this in advance?

This Casserole can be made in advance. Prepare the recipe as normal, cover and refrigerate until you are ready to bake it. This would be fine in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours before baking it. When dinner time comes around, place it in the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes longer than the recipe states.

            Is this dish versatile?

Of course this Million Dollar Spaghetti is versatile. You can use a sausage instead of ground beef, you could also substitute chicken or venison for a delicious variety.

            How should I store the leftovers?

If you are lucky to have any leftovers, be sure to cool to room temperature, cover tightly and place in the refrigerator. The Million Dollar Spaghetti will last for 3 days. You could also place the casserole into a freezer safe dish with a cover and freeze for up to 3 months.

            Can this be made without meat?

It certainly can! Simply leave the meat out of the sauce and continue with the recipe as written.

What do you need to make Million Dollar Spaghetti Casserole

            16 ounces spaghetti noodles, cooked Al Dente

            ½ lb ground pork or Italian Sausage, ground and browned, then drained

            ½ lb Ground Beef, lean, browned and drained

            2 Garlic Cloves, minced

            Salt and Pepper to taste

            1 onion, small, diced fine

            24 ounces Marinara Sauce, your favorite

            3 tbsp Butter

            1 cup Ricotta Cheese, you can use Cottage cheese in place of Ricotta

            ¼ cup Sour Cream

            ⅔ cup Parmesan Cheese, freshly grated or shredded

            2 cups Mozzarella Cheese, freshly shredded

            8 ounces Cream Cheese, softened

How to make Million Dollar Spaghetti Casserole

FIRST STEP:

Cook the noodles to al dente, drain and rinse

Brown the two types of meat and drain the excess grease

In a separate bowl combine the sour cream, cream cheese, Ricotta or Cottage Cheese,  and mix well

Add the marinara sauce to the meat mixture, save ½ cup of marinara sauce

SECOND STEP:

In a large bowl add the spaghetti noodles, butter and the saved ½ cup Marinara Sauce and toss to combine

Place half of the Spaghetti mix in the bottom of a 9×13 baking pan

Top the noodles with the combined cheese mixture and spread evenly

Top the Cheese layer with the remaining Spaghetti noodles and spread evenly

THIRD STEP:

Spread the meat sauce over the top in an even layer

Top with Mozzarella Cheese and the Parmesan Cheese

Place in a preheated 350* oven and bake for 30 to 40 minutes until it is hot and bubbly

FOURTH STEP:

If the cheese seems to be browning too rapidly, place an aluminum tent over the top

After done, remove from the oven and allow to stand for 10 minutes

Serve with your favorite Garlic bread and enjoy!
