Orange chicken is a staple at most Chinese food restaurants. When we order takeout it’s always on the list! It’s a little sweet, savory and perfect for with rice, veggies, and more! Try it with crockpot chow mein, another takeout style favorite in our house!

You can make this recipe in a variety of slow cookers, if you double the recipe you can make this in a larger Crockpot, the regular batch can be made in smaller Crockpots if you like!

Here’s what you’ll need for this easy slow cooker orange chicken:
This recipe has a rather long list of ingredients which you can find int he recipe card at the bottom of the post. It’s mostly the sauce so don’t get too worried about the list!
The chicken we’re using is boneless skinless chicken breasts, thighs will also work! You’ll also need cornstarch, salt, pepper, and olive oil.
For the sauce you’ll need orange zest, orange juice, sugar, honey, cornstarch, low sodium soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, garlic, sesame oil, ginger, and red pepper flakes!

If you don’t like the added spice you can skip the pepper flakes but I don’t think they add an overwhelming amount of heat.
How to make Orange Chicken in the Crockpot:
Prepare the slow cooker liner with nonstick cooking spray.
In a gallon-sized freezer bag, shake together the cornstarch, salt, and pepper. Add the chicken and toss to coat.
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the olive oil and brown the chicken in batches until browned on both sides. Move the chicken to the slow cooker liner.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the remaining ingredients. Pour it over the chicken in the slow cooker.
Cover the slow cooker and cook for 2 hours on low or 1 hour on high, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees.
Serve over rice and garnish with sliced green onions.

Ingredients
- 2 to 3 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into bite size pieces
- ¼ cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper

- ¾ cup freshly squeezed orange juice
- ¼ cup sugar
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar

- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
