Pioneer Woman Sausage Gravy

This is a classic recipe that all people have heard of, however, this one is a tiny bit different. This is a true, traditional style Biscuit and Gravy. This is not one of those fake recipes that tell you to mix cut up links and combine it with cream soup mix, and then open a can of biscuits and bake them. I am going to give you the recipe that most of those who are in the know about Southern Style, will tell you this is the one!

Southern style does not mean it is difficult to make. A true Country gravy is hearty and filling. What the Midwest and the South would call Stick to Your Ribs filling. You could definitely use this gravy with other options besides the flaky biscuits.

It just is not the same. However, you could use American fried potatoes, hash browns or toast. I know of people that use this gravy on cornbread or mashed potatoes.

These biscuits though, oh man, they are so good. They are flaky, moist and perfect for soaking up gravy.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I substitute the sausage for something else?

You could switch it out for chicken or turkey, or even beef. Just remember this is a southern style Biscuit and gravy recipe.

Can I make this ahead of time?

Definitely! The gravy could be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container. Biscuits could also be made ahead of time. Then just reheat the food before you serve it.

How do I thicken the gravy without using flour?

Cornstarch and arrowroot are great substitutes.

Can I make this without using milk?

You could substitute the milk by using heavy cream or skim milk. When using a milk alternative, the gravy will not have the same thickness or flavor.
